During the course of the 19th century the wind instrument making industry in the Upper Vogtland region of Germany developed into a highly diversified and vital part of the local economy. A large range of wooden and metal wind instruments were produced to satisfy the demands of the local and national instrument markets. The wind instrument workshops understandably flourished in Markneukirchen, a traditional center of violin, guitar, bow and string making crafts in Germany.
