The profession of trough making still existed well into the 20th century. A trough maker made nothing but troughs - in all shapes and sizes. The troughs were used for kneading bread dough, storing supplies, serving dishes, or, if big enough, even for scalding pigs. After an introduction into three-dimensional shaping with the axe and adze, we will hew versatile and attractive vessels, sized according to their intended use, from a split green wood trunk.
