Fits planes Nos. 4 and No. 5
These plane blades are a unique upgrade for all Bailey/Stanley design metal planes with adjustable frog: Titanium as the carrier material, positively laminated with Magnacut steel - for the highest performance and surface quality. Available with or without titanium chipbreaker. Ready for immediate use, edge without micro bevel.
  • High edge retention and sharpness: The cutting edge made of Magnacut steel (61-62 HRC) is razor sharp, extremely wear-resistant, and due to the lower chromium content compared to other PM steels, it is very easy to resharpen.
  • Improved surface quality: The vibration-damping properties of titanium minimise tear-out, and the high elasticity prevents the blade from bending under heavy load or pressure from the chipbreaker.
  • Precise flatness: Impressive is the precisely flat polished surface of the back with low roughness (flatness 0.01 mm / Rz 1.6 µm), perfect for the sharpest edges.
Compatibility
  • No modifications to the plane are required for installation, only the frog needs to be adjusted.
  • The centrally placed slider in the plane blade is exclusively intended for compatibility with Lie Nielsen and older Stanley planes.
  • Note: On very old Stanley models, it may be necessary to adjust the plane mouth with a file.
  • The sharpenability of titanium is comparable to that of iron, and the lower material weight makes it easier to handle.
  • We recommend Cerax sharpening stones, diamond stones, or 3M Stikit Microfinishing Film Sheets.
Magnacut steel
Magnacut steel is a powder-metallurgically produced, corrosion-resistant high-performance steel with a comparatively low chromium content. It is characterised by higher cutting-edge retention compared to O1, A2, or similar PM steels. High-hardness vanadium and niobium carbides provide an excellent combination of notched impact toughness and wear resistance. Due to the low chromium content and the resulting fine-grained structure, impressive sharpness is achieved. Hardness 61-62 HRC.
