Design as art - furniture as sculpture: The history of anthroposopic interiors spans nearly a hundred years, during which architects, sculptors, painters and carpenters translated Rudolf Steiner's stylistic visions into individual form language. In contrast to the industrially oriented Bauhaus design, a style of furniture and interior design were created whereby the functional spectrum extends beyond practical usability to the spiritual needs of the human being - to a »spiritual functionalism«.
A representative selection of twenty artists, presented in individual portraits, as well as further, partly anonymous works that document in more than 600 illustrations a largely unknown chapter of 20th century design history, the artistic influence of which reaches as far as Wharton Esherick, the pioneer of the American Studio Furniture movement.
