For which applications does DICTUM offer hand tools?
Although our company history began more than 170 years ago with specialised tools for instrument making, our focus today is on craftsmanship as a whole. For many years, DICTUM has offered a wide range of high-quality hand tools for numerous trades and applications:
- Woodworking tools such as saws, planes and drills for joinery, carpentry, carving and instrument making
- Metalworking tools such as files, screwdrivers and pliers for locksmithing, forging and knife making

High-quality hand tools from around the world
We are constantly searching for outstanding tools and have maintained close relationships with leading manufacturers in Germany and abroad for many years. German-made tools from brands such as Bessey, ECE, Kunz and Ulmia are just as much a part of our range as renowned manufacturers from Austria and Switzerland, including Victorinox and Stubai.
Our range also includes tools from the UK, the USA, Canada and Australia, with brands such as Crown, Henry Taylor, Stanley and Veritas. Some measuring and marking tools originally produced in imperial units have been adapted to the metric system in collaboration with the manufacturers.
As one of the first specialist retailers in Europe, we have been importing high-quality tools from Japan for more than 50 years. DICTUM is particularly well known for original Japanese saws and knives with verified provenance. In recent years, manufacturers in other parts of Asia have also reached a high standard of quality, and selected tools from these regions have been added to our range.
Hand tools from our own production
A large proportion of our tools is produced under our own brands, either in-house or in close cooperation with selected partner companies. In the field of instrument making, we have been manufacturing tools under the Herdim® brand for more than 100 years.
Our product managers and designers develop tools from the initial concept through to complex assemblies. Prototypes are extensively tested in practice by our specialists and course instructors, and in some cases also by selected customers. Only once all tests have been completed to our satisfaction do we begin series production.
This approach allows us to respond directly to customer requirements and to adapt quickly to changes in the market.
